The Bugs of Summer

Summer 2020 officially kicks off on June 20th. Summer means swimming, BBQs, gardening…and bugs! That’s right, summer is primetime for bugs in the Northeast. So what should we be on the lookout for here in Upstate New York?

Stinging Insects

A variety of stinging insects will be buzzing around this summer. Wasps, yellow jackets, carpenter bees, hornets and honey bees are some of the most common. Their stings can be painful and dangerous. If you see a stinging insect, don’t do anything to agitate it. If you see a nest, give us a call for a safe and proper solution.

Ticks

Warm weather means ticks. These tiny creatures are hard to spot but easy to get on you. Ticks can carry Lyme disease, making them very dangerous. Keep the area around your home free of leaf debris and overgrown vegetation, and mow your lawn regularly to discourage ticks from hanging out there. For a thorough and proactive approach, consider our organic barrier treatment to eliminate ticks before they can reach you.

Mosquitoes

These blood sucking pests sure are annoying. Between the buzzing in your ear and the itchy bite they leave behind, mosquitoes definitely make our do-not-invite list. Mosquitoes are also a vector pest that can carry dangerous diseases. To combat mosquitoes, we treat the areas where mosquitoes hide during the day with an organic product from May through September which reduces the population near your home.

And More

Other common insects found during the summer months include carpenter ants, spiders, flies and powder post beetles. The complete list is certainly longer, but these are some of the most unwanted.
