How to Prevent Ticks

Warmer weather has arrived which means increased tick activity in Upstate New York. Our area has a large population of deer ticks which can transmit Lyme disease. These ticks wait in vegetation for a host to walk by so they can climb aboard. So what can you do to help prevent ticks this spring?

The first step is to consider what type of environment they like. Ticks thrive in vegetation such as leaf debris, weeds and tall grass. Raking up leaf debris, removing weeds from the perimeter of your home and keeping your lawn mowed can be a significant help.

If you’re going to be in an untreated area with vegetation, it is best to wear long pants, long socks, and long sleeve shirts. Be sure to check yourself over before entering your home.

We recommend treating your outside space for ticks with an effective tick control product. We prefer a Natural Botanical product with cedar-wood oil. We use this to treat vegetation close to your home and to place a barrier around the perimeter of your yard. This treatment offers highly effective tick control while being low risk.
