Creepy Crawlies to Watch Out for in October

Halloween is near…and so are overwintering pests! October is known for all kinds of frights, and today we are adding a few more to the list. Overwintering pests are those that seek refuge from the cold of winter, a warm and safe place to call home until spring rolls around. Your house is an ideal destination for overwintering pests.

Some of the most common overwintering pests include:

  • Stink bugs
  • Ladybugs
  • Boxelder bugs
  • Cluster flies

These pests find their way into your home through vulnerabilities such as open doors and holes in window screens. To help prevent these overwintering pests from invading your home, thoroughly inspect the exterior of your home for cracks, holes, and gaps, and always be sure to keep doors closed. It’s also helpful to keep the exterior of your home free of excess vegetation which may harbor insects.

If you notice one or two of these pests inside your home, you can probably take care of them yourself pretty easily. But if you start to notice a larger number of them trying to get inside your home or already inside your home, it’s time to call in your local pest control professional.
