Here are a few key characteristics to look for that signal it’s a carpenter ant:
- Heart-shaped head
- Rounded thorax
- Hairs at the tip of the abdomen
- Three distinct body regions
- Constricted waist
- Six legs
- Debris in and around the home including wood damage
- Crinkling sound in wood (they are burrowing)
Bonus Facts: Eggs are oval in shape and a cream color. Larvae do not have legs.
